In a normal year crops would be taking in as much light as possible to convert the sun’s energy into flowers and then seeds. Unfortunately this year there was very little sunshine in June and the crops have not developed as they should. The result of the EU referendum will have massive consequences for UK farming and the days of small family farms are now very limited as the UK Government will not be willing to support us like the EU historically has. Why so many farmers voted to leave when 75% of their income comes from EU support payments will forever remain a mystery to me.
On the positive side, nearly all of our bird boxes are occupied and schools have been visiting to learn about framing, food production and conservation.
